Renewable energy accounted for 92% of Utilitas’ production in the second quarter

In the second quarter of 2026, the companies of the Utilitas energy group in Estonia and Latvia produced 399 GWh of energy, 92% of which was produced from renewable sources. Of the energy produced, 287 GWh was heat and 112 GWh electricity.

“The investments currently in progress will increase the share of renewable sources in all of Utilitas’ district heating network areas to 90 per cent by next year, including in the largest network, i.e. Tallinn. At the same time, the production of energy from renewable sources is not only an environmentally friendly activity but also ensures security of supply and a stable price for consumers,” confirmed Priit Koit, CEO of the Utilitas Group.

The Paljassaare wastewater and seawater heat pump plant will soon be completed in Tallinn, which will start supplying emission-free heat to Tallinn’s district heating network in the winter of this year. Two new heat storage units will also be built in the capital – in Paljassaare and Mustamäe, which will be taken into use at the beginning of next year.

In Haapsalu, the renovation of the district heating plant has begun, in the course of which two shale oil boilers will be replaced with a new wood chip boiler, the existing infrastructure and reserve fuel solution will be reconstructed, and an electric precipitator will be installed. The goal is to reduce the use of fossil fuels and make energy production even cleaner and more suitable for urban environment.

Utilitas is developing wind farms in all three Baltic States, the Telšiai wind farm in Lithuania received an operating permit, and construction of the Lode wind energy and battery storage hybrid park will soon begin in Latvia.
