Utilitas, Estonia’s largest renewable energy company, was awarded the gold level quality label from the Responsible Business Index.

“The gold level quality label confirms that we are on the right track on our journey of corporate responsibility,” commented Utilitas Environmental Manager Kaire Kuldpere. “We know that Utilitas’ impact extends beyond the sphere of our activities and, therefore, we are constantly engaged in responsibly managing our environmental and social impacts. By operating sustainably, we contribute to the fulfillment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the goals for achieving carbon neutrality. For example, Utilitas’ carbon footprint has decreased by 70% since 2008, and we plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030,” added Kaire Kuldpere.

The most important goals of Utilitas are: achieving carbon neutrality as soon as possible, increasing the share of renewable energy, providing customers with a district heating service that has a very high reliability of supply, and creating an accident-free working environment for our employees and partners.

The full index application completed by the companies was evaluated and points were given in the following categories: governance and ethics, activities related to the natural environment, market environment, employees, and work environment.

On May 31, for the 14th time already, the Responsible Business Forum recognized 28 companies, organizations, and non-profit organizations operating in Estonia. Gold, silver, and bronze labels were awarded to companies that care about their surroundings and want to contribute to society to a wider extent than the law prescribes.
