Utilitas produced a total of 195 GWh of energy in the third quarter, of which 51% was electricity and 49% was heat. 94% of energy was produced from renewable sources.
Compared to the third quarter of last year, energy production in the companies of the Utilitas group increased by 10%, with an increase in green energy production of 15%. Sales of district cooling increased by 48% compared to the previous year to 1.7 GWh.
“The last two Septembers have broken records in measurement history with the highest temperatures. The average temperature has been more than three degrees above normal. The climate is changing, and we all need to adapt to it. By building the capital’s district cooling network, we can offer not only district heating but also district cooling to more buildings, which helps to keep the indoor climate of the rooms suitable at any time of the year in an environmentally friendly way,” said Priit Koit, CEO of Utilitas.
Utilitas contributes to increasing the availability of green electricity by building both new wind and solar parks. To date, the company has a total of 123 MW of operating wind farms in Estonia and Latvia. In Lithuania, on 17 October, the cornerstone was laid for the Telšiai wind farm with 20 wind turbines, the construction of which is led by Utilitas Wind. Upon completion, the wind farm will be operated by Latvenergo.
“New renewable energy capacities are being built throughout our region, which will contribute to the security of supply of our common energy system and the achievement of competitive prices. Competition for the realization of projects is fierce – dozens of onshore and several offshore wind farms are emerging in the region. In order to meet Estonia’s ambitious renewable energy goals, it is necessary to reach building permits faster in Estonia as well, because otherwise we risk the role of a country importing electricity for a long time,” Koit added.
