Utilitas renews the networks in all its district heating areas every year, and this summer the city of Maardu has reached a level where the entire network has been renewed.
District heating networks were largely established in Estonia already half a century ago and an active renewal period is currently underway to ensure the high reliability of district heating and the efficiency of the entire system. In addition, with the addition of new heat production technologies, it is necessary to use water with a lower temperature in the district heating network, which also requires an updated network.
“By now, Utilitas has renewed 3/4 of its entire district heating network, which means that the majority of the network is already modern, pre-insulated and durable. In Maardu, we have managed to complete the desired work and there will be no more scheduled network works in the coming years. We thank all city residents for their understanding during the work carried out,” described Elis Fels, Network Manager of Utilitas.
In other cities, Utilitas will continue to renovate and expand the district heating network. In total, the company manages 634 kilometers of district heating network and nearly 30 km of network will be built in 2025. Utilitas supplies heat to nearly 200 buildings in Maardu on a total of 440,000 square metres.
